Easy Ways to Spring Clean Your Life

Tomorrow is officially the first day of spring, which means spring cleaning in full swing! Last year we did a whole SPRING CLEANING WEEK series with tips on how to spring clean your house, from the kitchen to children’s spaces and closets. While we usually find ourselves eager to clean up clutter and freshen up our homes this season, there’s no need to stop there! It’s important to focus on decluttering other areas of our lives as well. Here are some easy ways to spring clean your life and feel refreshed as the new season unfolds:

Organize Your Environment

The home is the first place that comes to mind, but it’s important to keep all of your spaces organized, from your car to your workspace. Take one hour to clean out your car (The clutter can get crazy with kids in those back seats!) and organize your desk, and you will feel like a new person! You’ll be amazed at what a little decluttering can do for your productivity, creativity, and peace of mind.

When tackling your house, though, it can be helpful to make a list of all the areas you want to “spring clean” and then designate a day to focus on each one (Even if it’s 20 minutes here and there!). Here are some of our tips and products for spring cleaning each room at home:

  1. Kitchen and Pantry
  2. Children’s Spaces
  3. Craft Room and Storage Spaces
  4. Closet and Vanity
  5. Master Closet Reveal

Donate or Consign Old and Outgrown Clothes

When transitioning your closets from winter to spring, use this as an opportunity to reevaluate your wardrobe and clear out anything you (or your children) don’t wear anymore. If you haven’t worn it in years, it’s most likely time to donate or sell. I’m currently focusing on going through all of our baby clothes and submitting what’s outgrown to Bagsy, which is a great online children’s consignment shop that even resells monogrammed items. They mail you a Consignment Bag and all you have to do is fill it with your children’s gently used clothes, mail it back, and they handle the rest (They’ll even donate items you send that they can’t resell, if you request, so send it all)!

De-Clutter Your Digital Life

While not always top-of-mind, it’s important to give our digital lives a refresh every now and then too! Here are five simple ways to get your digital life in order:

  1. Clean up your desktop (Organize everything into new folders, change your wallpaper and empty your trash)
  2. Delete unused apps (Your storage space will thank you!)
  3. Clear out your contacts. (Do you really still need your high school math tutor’s cell # on speed dial?)
  4. Back up your files and photos (My laptop was stolen last summer, so I’m on top of this now!)
  5. Unsubscribe to unwanted emails (Unroll.Me is a great service that allows you to see a list of all your subscription emails in one place and batch unsubscribe)

Change up Your Routines

It’s easy to incorporate fitness or a new diet into your New Year’s Resolutions, but not so easy to get motivated in the middle of winter. Spring is the perfect time to kick start a new fitness routine, revamp your diet and set personal goals to stay on track. When it comes to improving self-care, making small changes to your daily routine can go a long way. I’ve recently committed to a yoga practice twice a week and bought a Peloton to fit in 20-minute cardio sessions at home whenever I can!

Unplug

I’ve saved this one for last because after you’ve focused on refreshing all the other aspects of your life, you can’t forget to focus on YOU! It’s just as important to declutter your mind by unplugging and making time for yourself. Even just carving out 10 minutes  a day to do something that brings you joy such as reading or taking a bath can go a long way when it comes to your mental health and reducing overall stress. Lately, I’ve been into lavender epsom salt baths to wind down in the evening. Game changer!
