Day trips from Dallas

Every now and then, it’s nice to escape the hustle and bustle of Dallas, especially when it’s so easy to take a day trip outside of the city to other fun Texas destinations! Dallas’s central North Texas location offers easy access to so many nearby getaways. Here are a few day trips from Dallas to consider:

WINNSBORO, TEXAS: WINNSBORO ART AND WINE FESTIVAL

Every fall, historic Winnsboro, just north of Tyler in East Texas, is transformed into an art and wine lover’s destination. This year, the festival takes place November 10-11th and will feature over 48 artists and 13 regional wineries. Curated vendors exhibit their wares to visitors from around Texas who enjoy shopping for unique gifts and goods from jewelry to photography, chocolates to cigars, and much more! FORT WORTH, TEXAS: THE STOCKYARDS

Just 45 minutes west of Dallas, the Fort Worth Stockyards are the perfect place for a quick excursion outside of the city! This historic site is still a functioning cattle exchange, and it hosts the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive. Dine on some of the best barbecue in Texas, wander through a cattle-pen maze, listen to live-music, and watch a championship rodeo every weekend night at the Stockyards! The Stockyards are also a fun shopping destination for Southern art, craft leather goods, apparel, or a great pair of Western boots. If barbecue isn’t your thing, head over to Joe T. Garcia’s for fajitas and a margarita on the best patio in town (but don’t forget your wallet- it’s cash only!).

GLEN ROSE, TEXAS: FOSSIL RIM WILDLIFE CENTER AND DINOSAUR VALLEY STATE PARK

About an hour and a half outside of Dallas, Glen Rose is home to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center and Dinosaur Valley State Park. Book a Fossil Rim guided safari tour or even drive your own vehicle through the property to get up close and personal with giraffes, deer, zebras, and more! Fossil Rim’s conservation program cares for Mexican Gray Wolves, Southern Black Rhinoceroses, and several other endangered species. Get the chance to view these incredibly rare species at Fossil Rim’s “Behind the Scenes” tour. Another fun Glen Rose stop for the family is Dinosaur Valley State Park. Take a trail ride along the Paluxy River or hike through the hills to view real dinosaur footprints in the area where sauropod tracks were first discovered!

WACO, TEXAS: MAGNOLIA SILOS

A short drive south of DFW, Waco is the filming location for the popular HGTV show Fixer Upper. Visit Chip and Joanna’s Magnolia Silos to shop all of their favorite looks, play lawn games, grab a bite at one of the many gourmet food trucks, and treat yourself to something sweet at Silos Baking Co. If you want to extend your trip, stay at one of Magnolia’s delightfully designed B&Bs! Waco is also home to the Dr. Pepper Museum and original bottling plant, where you can learn about the history of this fizzy favorite. Don’t forget to stop and sample old fashioned sodas and ice cream floats at Frosty’s Soda Shop while you’re in the area!

FRISCO, TEXAS: DALLAS COWBOYS WORLD HEADQUARTERS

Tour the state-of-the art new Dallas Cowboys Headquarters, The Star, in Frisco! Tour highlights include a visit to the Ford Center indoor athletic facility where the team practices, the Cowboy’s NFL Draft “War Room,” a Super Bowl memorabilia station, and the Nike Star Walk. Frisco is also home to The Shops at Legacy and the new Legacy West, featuring luxury shopping, boutique stores, and tons of amazing restaurants! What a fun way to spend an afternoon by just zipping up the Tollway!

CANTON, TEXAS: CANTON TRADE DAYS

The weekend before the first Monday of every month, Canton hosts the oldest and the largest outdoor flea market in the United States. Just a short drive from Dallas, visit Canton Trade Days to explore six acres of retail space with over 6,000 vendors from all over the country! Put on your boots, grab some friends, and head East to scour Canton and find unique vintage pieces, some good antiques and refinished furniture, as well as one-of-a-kind decorative accessories.

We hope you enjoy creating #intentionalmemories as you explore North Texas. Happy trails to you!
