Luggage We Love

With Labor Day weekend on the horizon and holiday travels soon after, we thought it may be a good time to talk about LUGGAGE WE LOVE! Whether you’re headed to the lake, across the country or abroad, maybe even just enjoying a “staycation” in town, everyone needs a few go-to bags on hand for last-minute and longstanding trips. We’ve narrowed down which styles of bags work best for different journeys. Some of these we own ourselves, and we love the look of the other ones featured. Keep in mind, too, that luggage makes a great gift, and it’s never to early to think about holiday shopping and graduation presents! Safe travels, y’all!

Tote Bags

A quality “Mary Poppins” tote bag is a must-have travel piece to stow items for easy access en route as well as items that don’t quite fit in your suitcase. A travel tip that’s saved us space is to pack a smaller purse inside a tote so you don’t have to carry two purses or pack multiple handbags in your suitcase. It’s not necessary to compromise on style for practicality, and we lean toward neutral looks for year-round versatility. This black leather tote is a great basic travel bag, while this classic canvas tote is another carry-anywhere bag with a leather flap to protect your belongings:

Weekenders

Weekender bags are aptly named for weekends away! We reach for these when its time to head to the lake or for quick trips when all you need is a few pairs of clothes and your toiletries. This waterproof canvas duffel by new travel brand Paravel works well for weekends and longer, and the plaid bag below has a separate compartment on the bottom for shoes or laundry. Both of these have monogramming and personalization available!

Carry-Ons

Weekender bags can work as carry ons, but we’ve found harder-sided bags with wheels work best for zipping around the airport without creating shoulder strain. Since they’re also a little sturdier, they tend to more effectively protect your belongings while in the overhead bin, too. The cream and leather carry-on set below is a chic duo to take on the airplane as your carry-on bag and personal item. Then there’s this black, hardshell carry-on, which is an investment and looks down-to-business, but the brand is known for its quality and should stand the test of time. If you travel frequently, investing in quality luggage is worth it for not having to deal with wonky wheels or broken handles!

Suitcase Sets

We bring out the big suitcases for trips that are longer than a couple of days. Owning a quality set is the way to go if you’d like to purchase multiple sizes of the same style at once!  It’s generally more cost effective than buying pieces individually and ensures that your luggage matches (Coordinating bags are not a necessity, but it’s an easy way to feel put together while traveling and to spot which ones are yours!).

We have a few sets of suitcases that are the same brand as the black and leather set below. We’ve found them to be durable as well as beautiful (Be sure to buy protective cases for the lighter-colored ones, though.)! However, growing up, my family had a trusty set of Hartmann luggage that got us around the world for many years. The sturdy tweed fabric brings back such nostalgic childhood memories. We can recommend this set for heavy use and handsome style, too:

Luggage for Littles

Finally, a little color amidst our practical brown, black and cream luggage picks! These sweet suitcases are small enough for your child to pull around themselves, but large enough to hold a few days to a week’s worth of clothing (if you’re a good packer!). We also have a lot of coordinating accessories from this brand for all three kids, from rainboots to beach towels! These types of travel bags for kids attract lots of smiles in the airport and make a great baby gift, too.
